Eric Arnold's running with slugs captures the adolescent experience with all of its absurdities, profundities, epiphanies and angst. In Kro Kandle, the book's thirteen-year-old protagonist and narrator, Mr. Arnold has created an American 'Adrian Mole.' Kro Kandle is searching for meaning while navigating through the rough terrain of middle school. This book is a must read for all teachers, parents, counselors, therapists and, of course, all middle school students."
--Fred Lown, retired middle school teacher and author of Langston Hughes: An Interdisciplinary Biography and co-author of Reading and Writing Poetry with Teenagers
This delightful story has something for everyone - adventure, magic, and even a hint of mystery. running with slugs takes readers on a journey that bounces happily from silly to serious, from playful to profound."
--Quinn D. Eli, playwright, educator and author of Homecoming: The Story of African-American Farmers
"This is the first time I ever rated a book , but for good reason. ‘Running with Slugs’ is very enjoyable read. I can relate to the storyline while bringing back great memories of my childhood. The eclectic mix of poetry and story brings the book to life. I highly recommend ‘Running with Slugs’. Delightful and relatable . A must read!!"

Why do so many young teens (especially boys) not enjoy reading more? I suspect the answer to that question is because there is so little engaging literature that sparks the inquisitive, complex and quirky imaginations and personalities so many of our middle school age children possess. Mr. Arnold has created a unique and refreshing book that helps fill that void. It provides an interesting mix of anecdotes, observations, some poetry, and other musings that keep the reader engaged. This book has an appeal for reluctant and voracious readers alike. As a parent and former teacher I encourage you to put this in the book hands of young readers....they might even put their phones down for awhile."

This book should be mandatory for all educators!! I am mesmerized with this book . As a teacher I can relate to the characters and situations. As the mother of a teenager, this is therapy! Thank you Mr Arnold!!!!"

running with slugs is a very relatable coming-of-age type novel about a boy, his friends, his family and all things middle school. It is a sweet story that really is for anyone, but is especially suited for kids who are going through the drama of being adolescents (and for their teachers too!) I have recommended this book to my 7th grade students and their families. Would be perfect for summer reading or kid book clubs!"
